“Shelley is a brilliant example of an exceptional educator. Her commitment to the success and well-being of her students is unwavering.”

-Linda Amici

Shelley Seabury is a fantastic educator. She embodies every attribute a person would want in their child's teacher. She has high expectations for the success of her learners and is relentless in supporting their growth. Her expertise in connecting with each of her 5th grade students at Mark Twain Elementary School, cultivating a connected classroom culture where learners feel safe and are empowered to take risks, and using data to support their progress make her an invaluable asset to our learning community. Her passion for teaching inspires her colleagues, making her a true role model for her peers.

Shelley is a brilliant example of an exceptional educator. She believes in the brilliance of each of her learners and tirelessly supports their growth, constantly seeking to improve, develop, and refine her teaching methods. Shelley's expertise in differentiating and fostering a connected classroom culture where learners feel safe and empowered is genuinely remarkable. In addition to her work during school hours, Shelley goes the extra mile by volunteering her time after school to assist her students. She knows her work matters and does it with her whole heart. She profoundly understands that what we do to support the learners in our community has implications far beyond our classroom walls, and she is deeply invested in the holistic development of her students, both academically and personally.

Shelley is masterful at using data to support student progress. She is committed to fostering trusting relationships with students and families, creating a collaborative learning culture that enriches the educational experience for everyone involved. Shelley consistently gives her best every day. She is known by her colleagues, administrators, and families for shifting the mindsets and trajectories of her students, teaching them how to embrace challenges with resilience. One of her favorite quotes, "Everything is hard until it becomes easy," encapsulates her philosophy and the supportive environment she creates for her students.

“Shelley does her work with heart. She is truly making a remarkable difference in the lives of students. She builds relational resilience, and her learners find joy in their hard work. In addition, she is always willing to lend a hand to her colleagues while simultaneously going the extra mile for her learners and their families.”

Teachers Honor Teachers

The Martha Holden Jennings Foundation launched a new program in 2023 inviting teachers to recognize a colleague they know is doing exceptional work in the classroom.

In the above post, Linda Amici expresses her admiration for fellow teacher, Shelley Seabury. Thank you to both educators for your dedication to students and for taking the time to showcase what it means to deliver challenging, innovative, and student-centered lessons that result in powerful and deep learning.

Through the Teachers Honor Teachers Program, The Foundation is seeking Ohio public school teachers to share great things about a teaching colleague in an Ohio public school that ensures deep learning for students. If we choose to post your story, we will award $500 toward that teacher's classroom for their great work and $500 toward your classroom for honoring their excellence. Apply here.
